Who We Are
Megan and Caroline are teacher and student, partners in business, but first and foremost, friends. They began their journey together when Caroline, on referral from a mutual friend, (their former high school music teacher), contacted Megan about Voice lessons. They quickly became friends and discovered that their was a common issue among voice teachers and students, that needed to be addressed, thus came The RemindAir Breathing Strap™. When Caroline began studying piano, they realized that there was a common issue there, as well, and the Hidden Hands Piano Trainer was born.
Megan and Caroline, Musically
Megan is a very gifted and successful professional Mezzo-Soprano, and Voice and Piano teacher, in the New Orleans area. She is Instructor of Classical Voice, as well, as Choral Director, at the University of New Orleans and maintains a private voice and piano studio for children and adults. She is nationally certified as a voice teacher by Music Teachers National Association. Megan is the Music Director of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church and frequently cantors for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Her discography includes a scared CD titled, “Honoring Mary, Our Mother” and a recording of songs from the world of musical theater and jazz. Equally at home in classical and musical theater genres she was proud to be a participant in the Cabaret School at Yale University.
Megan is a member of Music Teachers National Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Louisiana Federation of Music Clubs and the National Pastoral Musicians Association. She holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education, minoring in Piano, and a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance. Favorite performances have included being a soloist in Wagner’s Liebstod from Tristian Und Isolde, singing the Villa Lobos Magnificat at the Brazilian Music Festival, Nettie Fowler in Carousel, Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music, the Aunt in Madame Butterfly, Arnalta in The Coronation of Poppea, and numerous Messiah performances.
Highlights off some of Megan's past several years of performing would include singing for President and Mrs. Bush at a memorial Mass honoring the victims and survivors of Hurricane Katrina, and a benefit concert for the restoration of Notre Dame Seminary College. She has also sung for Senator Ted Kennedy and his family and was privileged to participate in a non denominational service with Aaron Neville honoring the victims of the September 11th attack on the United States.
Megan began her piano study at age 8, for two years. She put piano on hold between the ages of 10 and 15, while studying Voice, returning to piano at age 15. Megan has been teaching piano in her private studio for 20 years.
Megan does not only project success and professionalism wherever she goes, but also, joy, honesty, humility, discipline, and dedication, along with an exceptional work ethic and attitude. She is a wonderful and devoted daughter, sister, and friend, with a heart of gold, and is a blessing and gift to all those who are privileged to know her.
Caroline is a songwriter, musician, and student of Voice and Piano. She has been singing, playing, and writing music since she was a young child in the 1970's. She began, as a child, learning guitar and singing in churches and eventually started her first band in 1985 at age 17. She played professionally for the next decade, as a drummer and singer, playing live gigs, as well as, studio work. Some of the highlights of her music career were playing for packed houses, opening for bands such as The Ellen James Society, The Gin Blossoms, Better Than Ezra, and Peter Buck of R.E.M.. She eventually found her way back to playing in church as a drummer, all the while, however, writing songs and recording, on her own.
In 2013, Caroline began to feel that she was "losing" her voice and feared she would not be able to sing at all, in the not too distant future, if she didn't do something. Right away, she began studying, Classically, with Megan. What began as an attempt to save her voice, quickly turned into a passion for Classical study, and though she finds it quite challenging, it has proven very helpful in her writing and recording.
Caroline has also had, as a child, a very extensive exposure to Opera. Both of her parents studied, so she spent many hours watching her mother's lessons, and listening to her practice, and probably even more hours listening to her parents Opera records, as they played them every night. Caroline's mother sang with the local Opera company, during the 1970's, so Caroline was blessed to be able to perform in Tosca as a "choir boy", in 1977. She was even more blessed to grow up around her mother's friends, who were all Opera and pop singers, as well.
These days, Caroline is a devoted student of Piano. She is also still writing music, recording, and also working on writing several books.
Both, Caroline and Megan, give all the glory to God for their talents and abilities, their husbands, their friendship, and all of their blessings, which includes, the Hidden Hands™ Piano Trainer.
